Back 2 Blues, Gospel Blues Festival in Chilliwack, Aug. 12-14

EDITORS NOTE: When we discovered that Bellingham gospel blues band Trimmed and Burnin was participating in the Chilliwack BC Back 2 Blues Festival, we asked band member Shannon  Coberly to give us the inside information on this new, unique and relatively unknown blues event appropriate for the entire family. Shannon is perhaps best known locally for his custom amp company, Trimmed and Burnin', which has been featured here at The Blues Lamp.

This August 12, 13 and 14th, 2005 will be the second annual Back2Blues Gospel Blues Fest in Chilliwack, B.C. Last year I had the opportunity to go up there in my '52 Chevy panel truck (that I call the Bluemobile) and supply a harp amp for Darrell Mansfield. This year my company Trimmed and Burnin Amps is one of the sponsors and will be supplying amps for anyone performing that needs an amp. The Trimmed and Burnin Blues Band, of which I am a member, has the honor of providing some of them blues as well.      I am sure that most of you had no idea that there was a Gospel Blues Fest in Chilliwack last year, let alone this year, and I would not either had Darrell not called me and told me that he would be in the area. This year I am spreading the 'word' about this fledgling event to anyone who will listen. You may have seen the quarter page ad in the Washington Blues Society magazine.      The fest offers three days with good food, vendors, FREE on site camping and a great entertainment line up.

The gospel and blues entertainers scheduled will include blues musician Glenn Kaiser with his Glen Kaiser Band (GKB) from Chicago, known for his vocals and guitar work in the REZ Band. Darrell Mansfield (harp player and vocalist extraordinaire) from Hermosa Beach, California who has played with everyone from Van Halen to Bon Jovi (if that's a blues endorsement, Heh-heh!), and Larry Howard from Macon, Georgia, for those of you who remember an East Coast band called Grinderswitch that toured with the Allman Brothers and Wet Willie, Larry was one of the founding members. It has been some years since Glenn Kaiser, Larry Howard and Darrell Mansfield have been at the same venue at the same time. They toured in Europe, recorded together some years ago and their music flows like milk and honey when they get together. This is guaranteed to be a real treat for any blues enthusiast. There are not many Gospel Blues bands in the Northwest, but there are a growing number due in large part to the example of Kaiser, Mansfield and Howard.      The Trimmed And Burnin Blues Band is a Bellingham, WA group consisting of members Carrie Marley (lead vocals), Kim Hammond (all the way from Granite Falls on drums and background vocals), Ed Chatterton (on bass), Jamie Miller (on lead, rhythm, slide guitar and background vocals) and myself, Shannon Coberly (on lead, rhythm, slide guitar, a little harp and background vocals.)      Ticket pre-sales will go on until 7/05: The whole event is $50.00 Canadian, with a free BBQ chicken dinner. Friday PM is $25.00 Canadian, Saturday (all day) is $35.00 Canadian.     At the Gate Tickets are $65.00 Canadian for the whole event (but no BBQ chicken dinner---see above). Friday PM is $30.00 Canadian, Saturday (all day) is $40.00 Canadian.      All kids under 15 years are FREE and did I mention FREE onsite camping with showers?      For further ticket and general information please visit the Back2Blues Gospel Blues website (at www.back2blues.com).
