| Blues Radio Show from Skagit every Thursday |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
| There is a local blues show on the air waves and streaming live over the internet from KSVR, the Skagit Valley College radio station. KSVR 91.7fm airs it's blues radio show every Thursday from 8-10pm with "Mojo Mike" Witmer spinning the blues tunes. The blues features a broad range of blues styles. "I tend to like delta and Chicago style blues, but I'm not picky!" says host Mojo Mike. "My hope for the show is that people will listen! I'm excited and I hope others will tune in and we can learn together about the Blues." Local Washington blues artists have been given radio air time (see the submission information on the bottom right side of this article) as well as better known national artists, both vintage and contemporary. "In addition to letting people hear a wide range of blues...I hope that in some way the show can help promote local performers and their work." To that end, Witmer has included on-air interviews and performances with a variety of Northwest talent, historians and producers. Skagit Valley Community Radio offers up a wide range of both locally produced and national radio programming daily. Their internet streaming is great solution for background music while you're surfing the web. It is designed for high speed connectors so older computers and dialup connectors may not work, you'll just have to try it by clicking on the Live Web Broadcast speaker icon Thursday nights from 8-10pm at the KSVR 91.7 website. Mike Witmer is a native Washingtonian who grew up in the Seattle-Tacoma area. He played guitar in a garage band during his highschool years with a song list inspired by Northwest bands like The Wailers, Tiny Tony and the Statics and Merrilee and the Turnabouts to name a few. This radio show is a first for him, but he is no stranger to the demands a radio show can make. Witmer's father had a broadcasting career and was an announcer on KBRC in Mount Vernon, WA many years ago. Picking up some Robert Johnson tapes focused Mikes interest onto blues. These days it's what he listens to exclusively, and that's just who you want hosting a blues program! Check out Mike's blues show every Thursday from 8-10pm at 91.7fm KSVR. |
