David Payne is a 31 year veteran of the music business, a dynamic live performer and a professional recording artist. He has recorded with an impressive array of artists including Cash McCall, Lee Oskar, Paul Taylor, Fat James, Eric Martin and Todd Smallwood to literally name just a few in top notch studios all up and down the West Coast.
In Whatcom County, Washington, where he now resides, local blues audiences and musicians hold David Payne in very high esteem. Solid, versatile, knowledgable and soulful, Payne elevates a live performance with his mere musical presence onstage. He has appeared with numerous local ensembles, but some real stand out collaborations would have to include The Fat James Band, Harder Payne (with guitarist Ryan Harder) and King Bees of the Bayou.
Are you keeping track? Luthier, guitar technition, instrument designer/engineer, repairman, technical consultant and lest we forget, a multi-faceted (4, 5 & 8 string basses, fretless, key bass, upright and tuba) bassist and a baritone vocalist! His performances have taken him from studio to the touring stage, concerts, symphonies, musicals, national and international television and still more. It's enough of a plate to have kept three or four people busy, and David Payne is only in the middle of his career. He's just getting warmed up!
David Payne is the featured guest member of the house band for the Tuesday, January 10th, 2006 Buffalo Blues Invitational Jam held at the Wild Buffalo House of Music, 208 West Holly in Bellingham, WA.
