Guy Davis performs a roots blues concert at the Lincoln Theatre in Mount Vernon on Friday, April 14, 2006 at 8pm. http://www.lincolntheatre.org/html//cal_guydavis.html

His own roots are in New York City where he was raised in a theatrical family, Ruby Dee and Ozzie Davis, writers and recognized advocates of civil rights. His families history in the rural south came down to him in stories of his grandparents and famous parents. Today he is a self taught guitar player and a prolific blues recording artist. On stage, Davis is an engaging storyteller, bringing alive the rich oral history of blues along with it's music.

What makes him stand apart from many blues performers is his extensive theater resume'. In 1991 he debuted on Broadway in "Mulebone" which featured Taj Mahal. In 1993 he performed Off-Broadway portraying Robert Johnson in the play "Robert Johnson: Trick the Devil." His love of both acting and blues music would combine once more when he wrote and performed his critically acclaimed one man show "In Bed with the Blues". He has appeared in numerous other productions, everything from portraying Josh Hall on "One Life to Live" to "Beat Street" and having his music used in the Emmy award winning "To Be A Man" and the PBS series "The American Promise".

The past decade has found Guy Davis focused on creating blues music. Beginning in 1995 he has released
Stomp Down Rider, Call Down the Thunder, You Don't Know My Mind, Butt Naked Free, give in kind, Chocolate to the Bone and his latest CD, Legacy. Along the way he has appeared on other artists recording projects and salute compilations like From Mali to Memphis, A Nod to Bob, Where Have All The Flowers Gone and various television shows themes and appearances.

The Guy Davis blues performance in Mount Vernon promises to be both an educational and entertaining experience for the experienced blues fan and the uninitiated.
