Hammond Organ Week in Bellingham, Oct. 17-21, 2005

Marvin Johnson has been an active participant and organizer in many Whatcom County music events, but the one he is perhaps best well known for is his Hammond Organ Night. The annual event has occured at a variety of venues, from Blaine's Dakota Creek Roadhouse to the Fairhaven Martini Bar. His fifth annual Hammond Organ Night will take place in downtown  Bellingham at the Wild Buffalo House of Music (208 W. Holly) on Tuesday, October 18th. The extravaganza (described on the poster as an evening of B-3 organ-driven jammin' and cattle herding!) includes a variety of musical performers every year. Hammond Organ Night has been copied alot, but never equalled, come hear the real deal. This years special guests are the acclaimed acoustic roots band Tiller's Folly. But Hammond Organ Night at the Buffalo is just one of the week's special events.         On Monday, October 18th at the Fairhaven Pub & Martini Bar, Marvin Johnson performs on the Hammond Organ as Marvin J & The Po'Boys as the featured act at Chuck Dingee's Monday Open Mic. There is no cover, tips are appreciated and music begins at 9pm. (info. 360-671-6745)            There will be a surprise for attendees of the Harlem Full Gospel Choir at the Mount Baker Theatre on Thurs., Oct. 20th. After the concert they can socialize in the Mount Baker Studio Theatre and catch a Post Performance show by Marvin J. There is no cover charge for this relaxed performance.      But the big wind-up of the week's Hammond B-3 Organ events is the special Playing With My Friends concert being held Fri., Oct. 21 at the Mount Baker Studio Theatre on Commercial in downtown Bellingham. This is an intimate, limited cabaret-style seating event showcasing local artists performing improvisational music with Marvin J on organ. Tickets for the Playing With My Friends concert are available at the Mt. Baker Theatre Box Office or by calling 360-734-6080. Advance tickets are $12, it will cost $15 at the door.
