Jail n' Bail Event
has live Acoustic Music
at Boundary Bay Brewing Sept. 10
Jailers, judges and frantic bail phone calls? That sounds like a perfect scenerio for the blues and more, at least that's what Bellingham musician Marcia Guderian thought when she was contacted by the March of Dimes to help out at this unique fundraiser being held at Boundary Bay Brewing on Friday, September 10th from 11am to 5pm. (Click here to view the photos from the 2004 event)

Local business leaders and celebrities are 'arrested', 'judged', and then 'jailed' at Boundary Bay. Their phone calls to family, friends and co-workers raises their bail and serves as a popular fundraiser for our local March of Dimes chapter.

Guderian graciously declined being arrested for the event, but suggested that some live  music would entertain the detainee's, jailers and provide another way to raise money for the March of Dimes. She decided acoustic music would be the way to go since loud volumes would interfere with the numerous phone calls the detainee's would be making.

Finding the musicians willing to donate their talents would not be difficult. Marcia Guderian has been in the forefront  of the local acoustic and folk scene for many years. She headed up the prestigious Songwriter's Showcase, ran the Beechouse Pub's Acoustic Open Mike for many years and coordinated the room's live acoustic music on weekends. The difficulty in scheduling the stage for the Jail & Bail event would be in honing her long list of possible performers down.

"I decided to focus on experienced local musicians who weren't dependent on a sound system to come across to the audience. I will have my PA on stage kept at lower volumes,  the goal is to entertain without overwhelming the room. It will be those phone calls being made that bring in the big funds for March of Dimes," says Guderian. A stage tip jar will be donated to the March of Dimes and all performers are generously donating their talents.

Marcia Guderian's Acoustic Showcase will include her own vintage blues, jazz and originals. Other performers slated at this date include:

Mike Marker and Larry Hanks who have a new CD coming out. Marker's gritty vocals 12 string guitar and banjo have entertained throughout the states on his originals, Leadbelly and Pete Seeger tunes.

Eric Scott, a high energy songwriter who Marcia first heard out at the Little Roadside Tavern's roots and originals blues jam on Thursdays.

Laurette Langille singing and playing a variety of her traditional acoustic blues.

James Taylor, a Bellingham musician frequently heard at area open mikes who enjoys performing on unusual string instruments and slide.

Hambone Wilson in a rare acoustic performance of his original music.

Matt Audette, Whatcom County's country music king, in a solo acoustic perfrmance.
