c.2005 blueslamp.com
Performers from around Washington State are being recognized in the 2005 Seattle Weekly Music Awards. Folks from all around the region are able to cast their vote, just once, to take part in the awards. The wide spectrum of categories includes the Blues along with Lifetime Achievement, Best New Artist, Percussion/Drums, Guitarist, Vocalist, Singer/Songwriter, Experimental, Jazz, Cover/Tribute, World/Reggae, Hip Hop, DJ/Turntablist, Electronica, Punk/Hardcore, Metal/Hard Rock, Indie Rock/Garage Rock, Pop/Pop Rock, Soul/R&B and Americana/Roots/Country/Rockabilly.

Nominated in our favorite Blues category (winners noted in red color)  are
Alice Stuart, Becki Sue & Her Big Rockin' Daddies, Charles White Band, Henry Cooper Band, Hudson Blues Band, Nick Vigarino, PK Dwyer and Tim Casey & the Bluescats. Alice Stuart also shows up in the Guitarist and Lifetime Achievement Categories. The Buckaroo Blues band lands appropriately enough in the Americana/Roots/Country/Rockabilly column and Left Hand Smoke is a surprising find in the Pop/Pop Rock genre list.

How to vote: You can vote through the end of April with the ballot found in the Seattle Weekly, good luck finding a copy in Bellingham. Even the expansive Newstand doesn't carry it, but you'll find the Bellingham Public Library does keep one copy. Your entry will need to be received by midnight, Sunday, May 2nd. Since you're on the internet right now anyway, your best bet would be to vote using the on-line ballot (at http://www.seattleweekly.com/musicawards/ballot.php ). You will be asked for your name, address and similar information since this is a one person, one vote situation. Winners will be announced and recieve their trophies at the Fenix in Seattle on Tuesday, May 11th's Seattle Weekly Music Awards Party.

      A
Seattle Weekly Music Awards Showcase is slated for Sunday, May 1st in Pioneer Square, Seattle. A $7 joint cover bracelet will get the wearer into eight different venues. Doc Maynards (610 1st) will have a full blues showcase night with Becki Sue & Her Big Rockin' Daddies at 7pm, Tim Casey & The Bluescats at 8pm, Nick Vigarino at 9pm, Charles White Band at 10pm and Hudson Blues Band at 11pm. The New Orleans (114 1st Ave. So.)  has multiple nominee Alice Stuart at 9pm in their line-up of performers. Left Hand Smoke has a 10pm set at The Central (207 1st Ave., So.) and PK Dwyer has a 7pm set at The Fenix Aboveground (109 S. Washington St.)

Just 'cause you don't live in Seattle doesn't mean you can't have a voice in who the awards go to. If you don't approve of all of the nominees, be sure you take a moment to vote for the nominee you do support.
