| Nestled in the beautiful scenery of Washington's Skagit Valley, a blues rock band has been developing over the past several years led by Johnny Bledsaw. Bledsaw, who goes by Johnny B, is a songwriter, harmonica player and vocalist. When most of us first heard his band, Shadow Creek Project, it was a few years ago when they performed at the Mount Baker Blues Festival held in Deming, WA. The band has been through many changes since that time, but Johnny B's vision of a rock and blues fusion ensemble has endured along with the groups name. The current line-up of musicians in the Shadow Creek Project include Johnny Bledsaw joined by Brian Hurst (lead guitar and vocals), Neil Sorenson (bass and vocals) and Don Bailey (drums and vocals). If some of those names are familiar to you it should be no surprise. This musical cast has been working separately in the blues and rock trenches of Whatcom and Skagit Counties in a variety of bands over the last few decades. Their upcoming gig list is a mix of festivals and clubs, with scheduling on both sides of the Cascade Mountain Range. Shadow Creek's willingness to travel to Eastern Washington sets them apart from many local bands content to simply perform down the street. The band's repertoire is a mix of orginals and what they call classic rock covers. It should be noted, specifically to the hard core blues fan, that the classic rock songs tend to fall in the "blues friendly" category with crossover cover tunes like The Sky is Crying, Sunshine of your Love, Crossroads, Unchain My Heart, La Grange, Lie to Me, Fool for Your Stockings and I Just Wanna Make Love to you. In fact, when the band is unabashedly rocking the tunes are still drawn from crossover sources like Joe Walsh, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Lynard Skynard and Jimi Hendrix. Shadow Creek Project released their first CD, Everflowing, in the Spring of 2005. Everflowing was recorded in Bellingham, WA at Bayside Recording Studio and mastered by Chip Westerfield. You can download music files of the Shadow Creek Project both originals (Why You Wanna Do Me Like That, Playing Hide and Seek with Love and more) and cover tunes from their website at www.theshadowcreekproject.com . |
