Review: Fat James 50th Birthday Celebration at Wild Buffalo

(11-27-04)     Andy Koch, Harder-Payne and Friends of James hosted an energetic and enthusiastic crowd of blues lovers last night at Bellingham's Wild Buffalo House of Music in honor of Fat James' 50th Birthday. James left his St. Joeseph's hospital room to attend the gathering, soaking up the love and appreciation pouring from the hearts of all. His recovery from complications arising from weight reduction surgery is progressing now as James made it to the stage to greet the players unassisted, although he did not perform himself.     The heavy, mesmerizing blues emanating from Harder-Payne led the way to outstanding performances at the Wild Buffalo by Friends of James including locals; Andy Koch, Texas Jimmy, Johnny Brewer, Devorah, Kurt Aemmer, Dave Cashin, Airplane Dave, George Clark and David Payne. Payne is the co-founder/bass player for Harder-Payne who didn't get a break from playing, but certainly got a lot of respect for his endurance!      "WE LOVE JAMES!", the phrase shouted out from dedicated fans and players alike echoed throughout the evening to one of the best northwest blues performances of the year.        Thanks Everyone!
